I have been so thankful that we haven't really had a problem with the water or power since I have been here! Until today...I woke up to turn on the water heater this morning like normal. (Then I went back to sleep for another hour.) When I woke up again, no power and no water. :( Sad. My first Ghana water bottle washcloth shower! Good times! Oh well, I am just thankful there was power at school and the power and water are back on at the house now! Praise God I am the kind of person that doesn't mind skipping a shower! And praise God it hasn't been too hot so I am not totally disgusting!
This evening all the teachers, staff, and their families were invited to a school family's house for dinner. They had this huge tent set up with an amazing buffet. It was almost like a wedding reception! The family is so sweet and they are so thankful to God for everything he has blessed them with. It is awesome to see people humble and thankful before the Lord when by worldly standards they should be the ones honored. They certainly radiate the light of Christ to all those around them!

Praise God!
AIS is finally finished and we are actually teaching! It is such a blessing that the landlord decided to add all the space to the building because our enrollment has gone up so much this year. There would have been NO WAY we could have fit all the students in the building before the renovations. Classes started Monday and I am now in the process of getting to know "my kids." The kids are great! There are 15 7th graders, 11 8th graders, and 7 9th graders. It's so weird only having 33 students! It may not sound like very many students, but we are so excited to have more than we thought for this year. God is certainly working through this school. I am humbled to think that I get to see His will firsthand here.
Love you all!!!
Prayer requests:
Please pray that I would be diligent in my lesson planning and pray that I would feel more at ease with my 9th graders. They are so much older than middle school students! :)

Some Pictures
This is the courtyard for the elementary building. They moved the wall out about 20 feet or so to give us extra space.
This is the 7th grade room. One of the rooms I will be teaching in...
This is the high school building. It's next door to the elementary building. Both buildings were houses. It's interesting finding enough space for classrooms! My office is here and I will also teach 8th grade math, 9th grade english, and 9th grade world history here.
This is the elementary building where I will teach 7th grade math and social studies.
More pictures to come!

Learning my way around...
I took my first taxi ride a couple of days ago! I hadn't taken a taxi anywhere since I had been here and then I took 4 taxis in one day! As we drive around, I am starting to finally recognize where I am. Anne Clair and I went to and from the grocery store and then Lauren and I went to meet some of the teachers to celebrate Christy's Birthday. We went to this little place the teachers call Rosemary's where you can get "minerals" (pop) and snacks to play cards and just hang out. It was kind of fun being out after dark! After that we walked over to the Palace (where 6 of the teachers live) and I had my first FanIce experience. FanIce is Ghana's ice cream. It was really good!
Yesterday all the teachers had dinner over at the neighbors' house again. I can't believe they open their house up to all of us so often! We have a new business manager who arrived with his family the other day, so we were welcoming all 7 of them to Ghana. One of the teachers made a cake from scratch to welcome the new family and celebrate all the August birthdays. Cake mixes are pretty expensive here so it's awesome that Barb can make cakes without the mix!
School will finally start on Monday. I am excited to meet all of my new students. God is at work here in Ghana and He is growing the school at an incredible rate! There are going to be at least 40 new kids this year! I can't wait to see how God continues to work here. Keep praying that I would listen to His voice and follow His leading!

The market, Lesson plans, and Chocolate chip cookies!
A few days ago we went to this big market downtown. I have never seen so many people selling things! Some of the girls bought some fabric to get some dresses made. It's fairly cheap to get clothing made here. The dresses are beautiful and the colors are gorgeous! The market was rather overwhelming. If we didn't have some ladies leading us around, I would have gotten lost in an instant! After the market, we had lunch at a hotel by the ocean. This was our first view of the ocean since we have been here. It was nice from a distance, but the beaches right around Accra aren't really good. We have to go a couple hours away to really enjoy the beach!
The past few days have been spent at the school. I don't really have a room to set up (I will be traveling around to the kids) so I have been working on lesson planning quite a bit. We are still wondering if school is going to start on time. The workers are working like crazy, but there is still quite a bit to do. We'll have to wait and see. We should know by Monday!
The nights are long here because the sun sets around 6pm. We play a lot of games and hang out. Yesterday, the neighbors had the teachers over for dinner. They even made us chocolate chip cookies! They were amazing! I wished I was able to eat more of them!
P.S. - My cold is getting better. Just a bit of a cough left! :)

When will school start?
I am here in Ghana now! The weather has been wonderful! I hear it's even better than Illinois right now! I have a million mosquito bites, but they don't itch so that's a blessing. Thank you everyone for the travel prayers. Travel went very smoothly.
We are supposed to start school next Wednesday, but they are doing construction on the building right now, so we will have to pray that they keep working quickly. They are adding several more rooms to the school which is really nice. It will keep the school in it's current location for the next two years.
I will be living in a house (we are going to call the Pink Flamingo) right next to the school, but it is under construction right now too. I am staying with the Director and his wife right now. My two roommates and I will be moving in to our new place hopefully in late September. I'm learning a lot and trying to find my way around. I was going to go to the orphanage by the school today, but I have a cold and decided I shouldn't be around the kids yet. But I hope to help out there some in the future.
Prayer Requests...
Please pray the construction on the school gets done quickly and safely.
Please pray that I get over my cold quickly.
Please pray that I would be prepared for the start of school and ready to get to know my students.
